"THE LAST RESERVE" is a documentary that follows the struggle of the riverside communities of the Jauaperi River, in the heart of the Amazon Rainforest, for the preservation of their territory and its biodiversity. These communities face daily conflicts, such as drought, climate change, and illegal fishing of fish and turtles. Through projects that utilize social technology, such as Arapaima management, turtle nurseries, and a craft cooperative, they develop creative ways to combat illegal fishing.

The images of the forest, its beauty, and natural richness show what is at stake. The film reveals the efforts of the riverside leader Francisco Parede and Professor Paul Clark to raise community awareness about the importance of preserving the Jauaperi River and the life around it. The biggest challenge is engaging the younger generation and encouraging them to find their own identity within the territory. The creation of the Extractive Reserve (Resex) emerges as a vital solution for the sustainability and preservation of natural resources.

Throughout the film, the characters share their stories and memories, revealing their deep connection with the river and the forest. With vibrant scenes of artisanal fishing, craft making, and sustainable resource management, such as fish and açaí, the documentary highlights traditional practices that coexist with modern challenges.

Furthermore, the documentary emphasizes the importance of community associations and their income-generating projects, as well as the ongoing struggle and urgent need to protect biodiversity. The narrative culminates with a pilgrimage of the riverside people along the river, symbolizing the community's collective journey towards a more conscious and sustainable future.
